Programs

Sailing Awareness Foundation (SAF) supports many marine related programs:

(a)  Teaching sailboat racing to preserve the historical culture of American racing and the America's Cup.  This is done through our strategic partner Afterguard Sailing Academy (www.Afterguard.net) .  SAF provides vessels at extreme discounted rates to Afterguard as well as providing volunteers to help teach and maintain Afterguard's own vessels.  SAF also provides cash donations to Afterguard to help fund Oakland High School District students sailing courses for the Afterguard "Stay in School" project.

(b) Provide instruction as to the ways of safe boating including teaching people coast guard rules, navigation and basic operation of sailing and boating both intracoastal and intercoastal and offshore.  This is also done through our strategic partner Afterguard Sailing Academy.   SAF provides vessels at extreme discounted rates to Afterguard as well as providing volunteers to help teach Afterguard's own vessels.

(c)  Take people out for sailing and boating excursions to give them an introduction to sailing and it's many attributes and benefits including team work, pollution control, the science of wind propulsion, the science of weather, ocean currents, tides, navigation, water temperatures, wind intensity and direction.   This is also done through our strategic partner Afterguard Sailing Academy.  SAF provides vessels at extreme discounted rates to Afterguard as well as providing volunteers to help operate vessels Afterguard's own vessels.

(d) SAF is a 501c3 non-profit which started in Nevada to raise awareness of pollution in inland waterways such as Lake Tahoe and its tributary rivers.  SAF began its presence in the San Francisco Bay Area to become involved with sailing as a way of raising awareness of the history, safety needs and benefits of sailing.
